The “VIZLUB” began in the spring of 1878 when Trey Gallaher’s great great granddad rode down from the Tahachapee wilderness and started drawing and painting. This began a long line of men who fought bears and sailed the high seas with a paintbrush in hand.

No… Actually this club is for students of all majors at the Art Institute of California, San Francisco and is a gathering place to get help with your drawings, paintings, illustrations and concept art.

This club’s origins were formerly known as the “Painting Club” once upon a time.  They were a strong bunch of scrappy students whose soul dedication was to the art of painting with natural mediums exclusively for the joy and relaxation of it. But as ideas evolved and the clubs vision grew larger, a switch was made to a more industry focused directive and the doors were blown wide open.  The knowledge of drawing, painting and illustrating applies to all areas of design and the club is proud to include members from all majors.

Whether you are an interior design student sketching out a new space in perspective, an animation or game design major creating a new character or background, or a fashion student working on a new concept or illustration, the VIZLUB is YOUR gathering place to learn how to better visualize and strengthen your concepts.

Drawing, painting, design, digital or natural medium it doesn’t matter to us, we are here to discuss ideas and to illustrate them. Come by sometime, bring some new or old work and hang out with a bunch of people who like to draw and paint ideas.

Activities, demos and field trips are conducted every quarter and there are no dues, chores or contracts signed in blood so feel free to drop-in anytime forever how-long you can stay.  We don’t really consider ourselves a “lab” or a “club”,  … but a “LUB” … the VIZLUB!

We meet once a week, weeks 2-9… SO PLEASE check back to THIS BLOG for locations and times that change with each quarter.

Happy Drawing… and Feel the LUB!
