PORTRAIT UNIT

February 16th, 2010

The Winter Quarter ‘10 has brought a special portrait unit to the VIZLUB. The focus has been to study skin tones and color mixing.  After grabbing a piece of nearby cardboard and trusty pack of NuPastels (hard chalk pastels) the lesson began.  Officially the portrait above started the previous quarter in the VIZLUB, but has since spawned a fury of others. This portrait of Jessica was completed in three sittings.  Finishing touches still need to be applied, but this gives you a pretty good idea of the mixing of color happening on the surface.

This portrait of Krista is in mid-progress.  After solidifying the drawing in acrylic paint, just a few minimal color washes were applied to suggest tonality. This painting will conitue to be worked on in the remaining weeks. Feel free to drop by the VIZLUB, FRIDAYS 5-7p in 10UN 502 this quarter, weeks 2-9.

This was the beginning drawing of Diane that would eventually be used for the Concept Art Jam 7 poster this quarer.  Seen here is the early charcoal drawing with just a touch of white pastel on cardboard of course! The finished original can be seen in the club if you come by and copy of it can also be partially seen on the Concept Art Jam 7 poster.

VIZLUB Meets:  WINTER QUARTER ‘10 , Fridays, 5-7p, rm 10UN 502, wks. 2-9. See you there!

JAM 6… AND THE WINNERS ARE…

September 4th, 2009

It was a great night in room 612 of our NEW 10UN Building!  Short of a few issues like not enough space to set up our paints… the space was complete… with our very own SINKS and model changing room!  SWEET!

The usual suspects were in attendance and we were under way by 5:30p, Wednesday August 26, 2009. Tonight’s Concept:  ”The Queen and her Court”.  Models in attendance were Christopher Cronin and Bonnie Manzon who both provided some great inspirational costuming!

The time seemed to melt away like the cheese through our digestive tracts from Galaxy Pizza!  There is something not quite right about that pizza, but it fills a hole in our stomachs on a college student’s budget.

By 9:15pm the results were in and the walls were decorated with some greatly improved concept art!  Yes folks, you guys are getting better! It was a really close run-off for all three winners.  But here they are for…

SECOND PLACE ($25 gft. cert. to PEARL):  Zip Alegria

THIRD PLACE (Gouache Cake Painting Kit… SWEET!):  Cathy Chao
